We want someone who has never mined before to feel welcome — and someone who has been doing it for years to still find plenty to explore.

A newcomer should not need to learn Arduino, edit source code or understand a mining protocol before seeing a miner work. At the same time, builders and experienced miners should have real hardware, firmware, MiniPOW, adaptive difficulty, pool behavior and network development to dig into.

Why I created MINI

I created MINI because I wanted to mine cryptocurrency again.

I've been involved in cryptocurrency mining for years. I've built and operated mining rigs, shared mining opportunities with my YouTube subscribers, and developed cryptocurrency projects of my own.

At one point I had around twenty full mining rigs running. They produced so much heat that they were the only source of heat for two houses. I loved building the rigs, watching them work, earning coins, and experimenting with the hardware. But eventually the economics changed. The electricity costs and mining difficulty made running them impractical, and I shut them down.

I missed mining.

I tried the little Bitcoin lottery miners and other ESP32 cryptocurrency mining projects. After a week or two, the novelty wore off. They were boring, and eventually they ended up sitting around collecting dust.

I wanted something that would give people a reason to keep mining: an inexpensive little device that could do real proof-of-work, earn coins, and let you watch your progress.

I missed solar mining, too

There's something satisfying about running a miner using energy from the sun. I want MINI to bring that experience back, with low-power miners and nodes that can run on solar power. I also plan to recognize and reward solar-powered mining through achievements, badges, prizes, or other incentives as the network develops.

Solar power is not a requirement for mining MINI. It's simply another fun way to participate, experiment, and learn.

Why build MINI instead of a course?

I could have created a cryptocurrency mining course and sold it online. Instead, I developed MINI: a real proof-of-work mining experience made to teach people about cryptocurrency by actually taking part.

With MINI, beginners can learn about wallets, mining pools, shares, difficulty, proof-of-work, and rewards by watching their own miners work. As the network develops, there will be even more to explore, including blockchain transactions and nodes.

Someone can start with one affordable ESP32, learn as they go, and build a small collection if they enjoy it. No expensive mining room required.

MINI gives ordinary people a reason to start mining—and a reason to keep mining.
